About

I sold my practice. Here's what I wish I'd known first.

I'm Kevin Ng. I built a dental practice from scratch, sold it to a DSO, and kept equity in the deal. Practice Transition Guide is where I share what I learned.

The practice

I opened my practice in Chicago from scratch. No patient base, no seller transition. A buildout, a loan, and a plan. Six years from opening day, a DSO acquired it.

I was the primary audience for this site before it existed: a dentist with a number in my head, a practice I believed in, and no reliable way to know what it was actually worth.

The sale

When I decided to sell, I did what most dentists do. I asked around, got opinions of value, and started reading. What I found was a market where nearly everyone with real information had a financial stake in my decision.

I went through the entire process, from valuation to close. I negotiated the deal, retained equity in the acquiring company, and spent the following year building a family office from the proceeds.

The deal worked out. But I walked into that room not fully understanding how much EBITDA drove my valuation, how the taxes worked, or how much the structure of the deal mattered relative to the headline price. I was negotiating against people who close fifty of these a year.

Two practices with identical collections can have valuations three times apart. The difference has nothing to do with how hard either dentist works.

What this is, and what it isn't

I'm not a broker. I don't charge dentists fees and I don't represent any DSO or buyer. When you send me your practice information, I read it myself and reply within 48 hours with my honest read: what your practice might be worth, what a buyer would look at first, and what questions you should be asking right now.

If you decide to move forward, I'll tell you who I'd call. If you don't, the information is still yours. Either way, you'll walk into the room knowing what I didn't.
